När jag var yngre och tillsammans med mina bästa vänner fantiserade om framtiden över alldeles för många koppar kaffe innehöll den ofta kombinationen café/galleri/second hand-affär. Välkommen till nya butiken American Two Shot (135 Grand Street) i SoHo/Chinatown! Där har barndomsvännerna gjort verkligheten av drömmen och säljer välsorterad vintage, unga designers (som svenska Johan Lindebergs BLK DNM, Samantha Pleet, Bodkin, Jonathan Simkhai), kaffe, böcker, accessoarer och konst. Superfint!
ENGLISH: When I was younger and fantasized about the future with my best friends over way to many coffees it usually involved a combination of café/gallery/second hand store. Welcome to the new store American Two Shot (135 Grand Street) in SoHo/Chinatown, the result of two childhood friends actually realizing their dream. The cute boutique sells great vintage, up-and-coming designers (like Swedish Johan Lindeberg’s BLK DNM, Samantha Pleet, Bodkin, Jonathan Simkhai), coffee, books, accessories and art. I like it!

Alla som känner mig vet att jag är sÃ¥ lÃ¥ngt frÃ¥n en stjärna i köket man kan komma (min begÃ¥vade syster fick alla de generna…). Och eftersom prisskillnaden mellan att gÃ¥ ut och äta och handla färskvaror är sÃ¥ liten i New York har det knappast blivit bättre sen vi flyttade hit. MEN. Häromveckan tog min fina vän (tillika superkocken) Agnes med mig till New York Mart (128 Mott Street), en matbutik i Chinatown där de säljer alltifrÃ¥n färsk fisk (skaldjuren lever!) och kött, färdiggrillad kyckling, frukt och grönt till frysta dumplings, mystiska torkade svampar (och annat oidentifierbart), 1-dollarstofu och vanlig pasta. Allt är inte superbilligt, men shoppar man smart kan man fylla kassarna utan att knappt öppna plÃ¥nboken.
ENGLISH: Everyone who knows me also knows that I’m as far from a star in the kitchen as you can come (my talented sister got all those genes…). Especially in NYC, since the price difference between going to a restaurant and going to Whole Foods is minimal. But the other day my dear friend (and master chef) Agnes took me to New York Mart (128 Mott Street), a huge (for the location) supermarket in Chinatown. You’ll find everything from fresh fish, meat and vegetables to grilled chicken, frozen dumplings, mysterious looking dry mushrooms, 1 dollar tofu and regular pasta. Everything isn’t super cheap but if you shop smart you’ll fill your bags without barely opening your wallet.Â

Snygga smycken, Chanel-vintage (loafers!), mönstrade sweatshirts, 20-talsflirtande fjärderhuvudbonader… PÃ¥ The Market (328 W. 14th St) i Meatpacking finns mÃ¥nga fynd att göra, särskilt för den som gillar att plocka upp designers pÃ¥ vägen upp. Marcella hade svÃ¥rt att slita sig när hon var i stan för modeveckan och själv gick jag därifrÃ¥n med en perfekt leopardmänstrad väska i lördags, när jag lyckades pricka in nya New York-favoriten Laura Vela som var där och sÃ¥lde vÃ¥rens samples. Öppet fredag–söndag, 11–19.
ENGLISH: Cool jewelry, Chanel vintage (check out the loafers!), patterned sweatshirts and beautiful feathers… At The Market (328 W. 14th St), in Meatpacking, the gems are just waiting to be found, especially for those of us who love to pick up designers on their way up. Marcella found some beautiful bracelets when she was in town for NYFW and I left with the perfect leopard printed hand-bag on Saturday, when new New York favorite Laura Vela was selling of her spring samples. Open Fri–Sun, 11am–7pm.Â

Det är ett sÃ¥dant självklart stopp pÃ¥ New York-resan att jag har glömt att blogga om det: Beacon’s Closet (88 n 11th street) i Williamsburg (finns även pÃ¥ Manhattan och i Park Slope). Det är till den lagerstora butiken Brooklyns moderiktiga second hand-fantaster gÃ¥r för att fylla garderoben – och sälja den när pengarna tryter. Välsorterad och helt okej priser (även om prissättningen ibland kan tyckas underlig). Designerplagg, 50-talsblÃ¥sor och en del nyproducerade prylar i en härlig blandning, men var beredd pÃ¥ att ge det tid. Jag fyndade vÃ¥rens solglasögon där förra söndagen.
ENGLISH: It’s such an obvious stop on the New York trip that I’ve forgotten to mention it: Beacon’s Closet (88 n 11th street) in Williamsburg (also in Manhattan and Park Slope). The warehouse style store is where Brooklyn’s second hand loving fashionistas go to fill their wardrobes – and empty them when cash runs low. Good selection and good prices for the most part (even though you’ll find surprises in both directions). Designer clothes, 50′s dresses and new stuff in a great mix, if you  have the time and patience. I got myself a new pair of sunnies last Sunday.Â

När LA-butiken Creatures of Comfort (205 Mulberry St, vid Spring) öppnade i New York 2010 utropades den snabbt till ”nya Opening Ceremony”. Och med ett välsorterat urval av smÃ¥ designers (Hej Acne och Hope! Hej MM6, Isabel Marant, United Bamboo, Karen Walker och en egen linje!) är jämförelsen lätt att förstÃ¥. Butiken i Nolita är ljus och luftig med trädetaljer och ställer dÃ¥ och dÃ¥ till med vernissage coh kalas. Jag önskar jag kunde köpa ungefär allt!
ENGLISH: When the LA-based shop Creatures of Comfort (205 Mulberry St, at Spring) opened up their New York store in 2010 they were quickly labeled the ”new Opening Ceremony”. With their beautifully collection of small designers (Hello Acne and Hope! Hello MM6, Isabel Marant, United Bamboo, Karen Walker and their own line!) it’s not hard to understand why. The Nolita boutique is light and airy with wood details and once in a while they’ll throw a party or host an opening. I wish I could buy just about everything!Â

Dear Rivington +  (95 Rivington Street) på Lower East Side är en butik för drömmar. Drömmar om ett perfekt patinerat hem där stora romaner skapas och tunga kjolar som doftar dammig vind och japansk trädgård. Vintage och avant gardistiskt mode med fingertoppskänsla i urval och egen design. Ett ställe att gå till när man känner sig rik, eller bara vill titta på fina saker. Kolla in ägarnas vackra hem här.
ENGLISH: Dear Rivington + (95 Rivington Street) on the Lower East Side is a place for dreams. Dreams of a perfectly patinated home where great novels are written and heavy skirts that smell of dusty attics and Japanese gardens. The vintage is wonderfully selected and their own avant garde line beautiful. A place to go when you feel rich or just want to look at pretty things. Check out the owner’s beautiful home here.

”How much is your cheapest human scull?” – We have replicas. We do have real ones too, but you need a medical license for those. ”Oh…” Ett samtal överhört mellan en väldigt besviken kinesisk man och ett butiksbiträde på Evolution (120 Spring Street) i Soho. Jag gÃ¥r dit med skräckblandad förtjusning och tittar pÃ¥ barnskelett, ormskinn, uppstoppade sengÃ¥ngare och giftiga insekter. Till exempel kom de vackra fjärilarna som jag fick i julklapp härifrÃ¥n. Hälften butik – hälften skräckkabinett (men frÃ¥ga mig inte vad de säger i tullen om du försöker ta med en tigertand i handbagaget…).
ENGLISH: ”How much is your cheapest human scull?” – We have replicas. I go there with feelings mixed of terror and joy and look at children’s bones, snakeskin, stuffed sloths and poisonous insects. The beautiful butterflies I got for Christmas were bought here. Part shop/part chamber of horror (but please don’t ask me what customs will say if you try to bring an enormous tiger tooth through security…).

Fabulous Fanny’s (335 E 9th Street, mellan 1st och 2nd Avenues) tagline är: If you have to wear them, make it fun… Det gör den lilla butiken i East Village till himmelriket för alla glasögonormar. Retro är ledordet och det innebär alltifrÃ¥n cateyes till runda hipsterglas. Min vän Vanja hittade världens snyggaste Mia Farrow-glasögon, jag är avis!
ENGLISH: Fabulous Fanny’s (335 E 9th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues) tagline reads: If you have to wear them, make it fun… That makes this little East Village boutique heaven for any four-eyed person. Retro is the theme and that means everything from cateyes to round hipster glasses. My friend Vanja found the cutest Mia Farrow glasses, I’m so jealous!

Lower East Side där jag bor är fullt av smÃ¥, roliga butiker. PÃ¥ The Reformation (156 Ludlow St) hottar de upp gamla kläder pÃ¥ ett snyggt sätt. Perfekt om du har lite extra pengar och är ute efter ett unikt plagg – eller som inspiration om du är händig och sugen pÃ¥ att sy om din egen garderob… Butiken är även fint inredd (vill ha mattan pÃ¥ soffan!).
ENGLISH: The Lower East Side, where I live, is full of small, fun shops. At The Reformation (156 Ludlow St) they re-vamp old vintage clothes in a fashionable way. Perfect if you’ve got som extra money and are looking for a unique piece – or if you’re handy and want to get inspired to re-do your own wardrobe… The boutique itself is also nicely furnished (I want the rug on the sofa!).

Det är sample sale-säsong i New York, vilket betyder möjlighet till fantastiska fynd! Själv ligger jag lågt med shoppingen just nu, men annars hade jag gått på Rodartes och Rag & Bones reor i morgon. För Rodarte måste du osa, så klicka på länken. Rag & Bone håller till på Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Avenue, torsdag–fredag 10.30–20, lördag 12–19 och söndag 12–17.
Här hittar du lite tips pÃ¥ hur man fÃ¥r reda pÃ¥ vad som är pÃ¥ G. Själv gillar jag NY Mags Fashion Calender och hÃ¥ller särskilt utkik efter Opening Ceremonys och Alexander Wangs sample sales. Förra Ã¥ret fyndade jag den fina Wang-kappan pÃ¥ bilden för 80 dollar, mindre än en tiondel av originalpriset (bild frÃ¥n Sandra). Â
ENGLISH: It’s sample sale season in New York, which means great opportunities for great finds! Personally I’m laying low with the shopping for the moment, but otherwise I’d go to  Rodarte’s and Rag & Bone’s season sales tomorrow. For Rodarte you have to RSVP, so follow the link. You’ll find Rag & Bone at Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Avenue, Thursday–Friday 10.30–8, Saturday 12–7 and Sunday 12–5.
Here you’ll get some info on how to find current sample sales. I like NY Mag’s Fashion Calender and look forward to Opening Ceremony’s and Alexander Wang’s sales. Last year I got the pretty Wang coat you see in the pic for 80 bucks, less than a 10th of the original prize (pic from Sandra).Â
